Corrective Hair Transplant Repair: Fixing Unnatural Results
A failed hair transplant doesn't have to be the end of your journey. If you are struggling with an unnatural hairline, poor density, or a depleted donor area from a previous surgery, I can help you fix it.
This patient came to me after two previous unsuccessful transplants elsewhere left him with a depleted donor area and unnatural results. I specialize in these complex corrective cases. We performed a revision surgery, even without shaving his existing hair, to create the density and natural look he deserved.
Ashwini had a bad transplant elsewhere in 2018 that left him with an unnatural, straight hairline. I performed a corrective surgery to create a natural look, and he is now much happier and more confident.
This is a follow-up with Ashwini, who had a previous transplant corrected at my clinic. We discuss how the new hairline looks completely natural, the volume has improved, and his social confidence has returned.
About Correcting Past Mistakes: Our Expertise in Revision Surgery
Repairing a failed transplant is significantly harder than a fresh procedure. Because your donor area is already limited, I have to be extremely precise. In revision cases, I focus on two things: salvaging what remains of your permanent hair and carefully camouflaging the unnatural hairline from your previous surgery. My process involves a deep, honest assessment of your scalp's current state before I promise any outcome, because I believe in managing expectations before I touch a single graft.
Why Correction is Different
Most people come to me after a procedure elsewhere resulted in a 'pluggy' look, an unnatural straight hairline, or sparse growth. A revision surgery isn't about just adding more hair; it's about reconstruction.
When we do a second or third transplant, we are working with a 'budget'—your donor area is limited. If the first surgeon harvested too aggressively, we have to work with what is left.
My Approach to Revision
- Assessment: I look at the density of your remaining permanent hair (the safe zone) and the quality of the scars left behind.
- Hairline Softening: If your previous hairline looks like a doll's head, I add finer, single-hair grafts to create a feathered, natural transition.
- No-Shave Options: Many patients coming for revision are worried about shaving their head again. I offer a 'window shaving' technique, which allows us to perform the surgery without trimming your existing long hair.
- Donor Management: I prioritize the health of your scalp to ensure that adding more density doesn't cause further trauma.
Common Issues I Fix
- The 'Pluggy' Hairline: Incorrect graft placement that looks artificial.
- Donor Depletion: When the back of the head is over-harvested.
- Asymmetric Density: Where some areas are thick and others are completely bald.
- Bad Angulation: Hair growing in the wrong direction.
If you have had a disappointing experience, do not rush into another procedure. Let's discuss what is scientifically possible for your scalp before you make any decisions.
