Standard Decorative Custom Framing
Core Components
- Frame Moulding: Selection from standard range of wooden or high-quality synthetic mouldings (approx. 1-2 inch width). Styles include basic matte, gloss, or antique finishes.
- Glazing: Standard clear float glass (2mm - 3mm) for visibility and basic dust protection.
- Mounting Board: Standard pH-neutral paper mounts (Single layer). Choice of off-white, black, or basic color tones.
- Backing Board: High-density MDF or hardboard backing to keep the artwork flat.
Craftsmanship & Service
- Consultation: Basic design advice to match the frame with the artwork's colors.
- Assembly: Dust-sealed taping at the back to prevent insect entry.
- Hanging System: Standard D-rings with nylon cord or metal wire, ready to hang.
- Finishing: Neat corner joining (glued and v-nailed).

Preservation Materials
- Glazing (Glass): Super Clear Museum Glass (99% UV protection and anti-reflective) to prevent fading of pigments and ensure absolute clarity.

- Alternative Mounts: Option for Raw Silk Cloth Mounts for a luxurious texture.
- Backing: Acid-free foam board backing that acts as a buffer against humidity and pollutants.
Expert Techniques
- Reversible Mounting: Use of distinct hinges or photo corners (no permanent adhesives touch the artwork), ensuring the art retains its resale value.
- Space Creation: Use of spacers or double mats to ensure the glass does not touch the artwork surface.
- Premium Mouldings: Selection from high-end imported wooden frames (Teak, Walnut finishes) or sleek industrial Black Metal frames.
- Sealant: Hermetic sealing tape to create a protective micro-environment inside the frame.
Bespoke 3D Shadow-Box Framing
Structural Engineering
- Box Construction: Custom-built deep rebate frame (Shadow Box) to accommodate the thickness of the object (e.g., pipes, medals, sculptures).
- Internal Lining: Interior walls and base lined with Velvet, Raw Silk, or Suede to create a premium backdrop.
- Invisible Mounting: Specialized non-invasive mounting techniques:
- For Textiles (Scarves): Hand-sewn invisible tacking (no glue/staples) to maintain fabric tension.
- For Hard Objects: Custom-fabricated acrylic or metal brackets/cleats that are barely visible.
Aesthetic & Protection
- Glazing: High-grade UV-protective acrylic or glass (lighter weight for deep boxes).
- Visual Focus: Layout design to create a precise focal point.
- Moulding Options: Antique Gold, Deep Box Wood, or Modern Metal.

Restoration Process
- Condition Report: Initial examination of the frame's structural integrity and surface damage.
- Deep Cleaning: Removal of dust, grime, and oxidation using specialized conservation-grade cleaning solutions.
- Structural Reinforcement: Re-joining loose corners using v-nails, wood glue, and corner braces to ensure strength.
Aesthetic Repair
- Surface Work: Filling cracks or wormholes with wood filler.
- Touch-ups: Painting or re-gilding (Gold/Silver leaf touch-ups) to match the original patina.
- Hardware Update: Replacement of rusted hanging wires or hooks with new, heavy-duty hardware.

My father, Kantilal Gala, landed in Mumbai in the 70s with just a suitcase and a big dream for Indian art. In '87, Painted Rhythm Art Gallery took shape, not as a shop, but as a meeting point for artists and folks searching for art that means something. Now, as architects, we bring our own twist—mixing art and spaces, playing with light, letting every wall join the conversation. Still that same old bridge, just with new bricks.
