Hand-painted botanical bookmarks and small gouache art
I create tiny, peaceful worlds inside my sketchbook and on custom bookmarks. These small pieces are my way of capturing a quiet moment, just for you to hold.
I truly miss making these. This video shows the process of creating a custom landscape bookmark, from wetting the paper to painting a tiny, detailed scene. It's a perfect, personal piece of art to hold your place in a favorite book.
A dreamy wildflower field against a sunset sky, painted with gouache in my spiral-bound sketchbook. This shows how I experiment with colors and compositions for potential larger paintings.
About this collection
I use heavy 300 GSM cotton paper for these small pieces because it holds gouache beautifully without buckling, giving you a tactile, velvet-matte finish. Every bookmark is sealed in a protective sleeve, so it stays crisp and vibrant even when tucked inside your favorite book.
Small art requires a different kind of focus. While larger canvases allow for broad, sweeping strokes, my sketchbook works and bookmarks are about precision and the quiet joy of detail. I use professional-grade Arches or Baohong paper for these pieces, ensuring that the gouache does not bleed and stays vibrant for years.
When you commission a bookmark, you are not just getting a placeholder; you are getting an original botanical illustration. Whether it is a single orchid stem or a tiny slice of a wildflower field, I pay the same attention to light and shadow here as I do on my larger MDF boards. My technique involves layering opaque gouache to create depth, which gives these small works a richness that prints simply cannot match.
I love making these for people because they are often intimate gifts. If you have a favorite book or a specific flower that reminds you of home, let me know. We can work together to turn that memory into a piece of art you can actually touch and keep. If you are looking for that cottagecore aesthetic or a small, peaceful nature scene to brighten your desk, these pieces are my favorite way to bring that vibe to life.
