Is washing your hair daily really bad? I break down the pros and cons. For an oily scalp, it can be helpful, but for a dry scalp, it's better to wash on alternate days.
About My Hair Care Mantras
Stop washing your hair like you are scrubbing pots and pans. Daily shampooing strips away the natural oils your scalp produces, leaving your strands dry and brittle. Aim for two, maybe three times a week, and always keep the conditioner on the lengths, never the scalp. This simple switch is the fastest way to keep your hair hydrated and your volume intact.
Most people over-complicate their hair routine, but the truth is, consistency beats complexity every time. Whether you have had a fresh global color or just want to keep your natural hair strong, the rules remain the same.
Shampooing: The Scalp Rule
Your scalp is where the dirt and sweat live. That is where the shampoo goes. Do not pile your hair on top of your head and rub shampoo into the lengths; that is how you create tangles and dryness. Massage the scalp, rinse, and let the suds run through the ends. That is enough cleaning for the lengths.
Conditioning: The Ends Rule
Conditioner is the opposite. Never put it on your scalp. It is designed to hydrate the dry, mid-to-end sections of your hair. If you put it on the scalp, your hair will go flat, oily, and lose all its natural bounce. Think of conditioner as the 'mithai' (dessert) after a good meal; necessary, but only in the right place.
The Daily Maintenance Hack
- Morning: A tiny drop of serum on the ends prevents that morning 'frizz-fest' when you wake up.
- Night: A gentle scalp massage stimulates blood flow and keeps follicles happy.
- Bleed Control: If you have gone for vibrant fashion colors like red or copper, expect some color bleed in the first few washes. This is normal. Use color-protect products to stretch the life of that shade.
Remember, your hair tells your story. If you treat it like an afterthought, it will look like one. If you have specific concerns, like scalp dryness or oily roots, drop me a message. We can figure out exactly what your routine needs.
