Handmade Crochet Marigold Garlands and Torans
Bring the festive cheer of fresh marigolds home without the worry of wilting. My handmade crochet Zendu garlands are vibrant, washable, and crafted to stay fresh season after season.
A close-up of my crochet marigold garland hanging by a window. The alternating yellow and orange flowers look just as fresh and vibrant as real genda phool, bringing cheer to any space.
This is a full view of the Zendu Haar, showing how the flowers are strung together to create a beautiful, lasting piece for your door or pooja room. It's a perfect, sustainable alternative to fresh flowers.
The wedding season rush, or 'लगीनघाई', is not just in the wedding home, but here in my workshop too. This photo shows a Ganpati toran and a marigold garland in progress, essential items for the Maharashtrian 'Rukhwat' wedding display.
A simple and elegant toran design featuring yellow crochet flowers and green mango leaves. This door hanging is perfect for adding a subtle festive touch to your home entrance any time of the year.
This marigold toran is designed for easy hanging with built-in rings. The dense arrangement of orange and yellow flowers creates a vibrant and welcoming look for your main door during festivals.
A classic marigold toran with alternating orange and yellow flowers. I use high-quality yarn to ensure the colors stay bright and the flowers keep their shape, festival after festival.
Here are several layers of my handmade marigold and mango leaf torans, ready to be packed. This design is one of my most popular for its full, traditional appearance.
About this collection
I craft every garland using high-grade 4-ply acrylic yarn, which is what gives them that soft, woolen texture and lasting durability. The biggest advantage over fresh flowers is that these are fully washable; if they get dusty after a festival, you can simply dip them in mild detergent, rinse, and let them air dry. They will not lose their shape or color, allowing you to reuse them for every Gudi Padwa, Diwali, or Ganpati celebration for years to come.
For many of us, festivals like Diwali and Ganpati just do not feel complete without the bright orange and yellow of Zendu, or marigolds. I started making these crochet versions because I wanted to create something that offered that same traditional beauty but lasted much longer than a few days.
Why Choose Crochet Over Fresh Flowers?
- Sustainability: Unlike fresh flowers that are discarded after one use, these garlands are a long-term investment for your home decor.
- Convenience: They are ready to hang immediately. No need to visit the flower market in the early hours of the morning or deal with the cleanup of dried petals.
- Versatility: My designs include traditional mango leaf patterns and pom-poms, making them suitable for both main door torans and interior mandir decorations.
My Crafting Process
Every piece starts with a simple hook and high-quality yarn. I pay close attention to the density of the flowers—ensuring they are full and round, not flat—so they look realistic from a distance. Whether you need a standard length for your window or a custom size for a wide doorframe, I can adjust the number of flowers and leaves to fit your specific space. When I am working on these, especially during the 'लगीनघाई' (wedding rush), I make sure each flower is securely attached so they can handle being packed and stored away until the next auspicious occasion.
