Behind the Stitches: My Crochet Creative Process
Come see how the magic happens, from my first loop to the final finish. I am sharing my creative world, including how I work with natural yarn and handle the little slip-ups that make handmade items special.
Even after years of practice, mistakes happen. In this video, I show you how to fix a dropped stitch in knitting with a little help from my maa, who is a knitting expert, and a crochet hook. It’s a great reminder that imperfections are part of the process.
Blocking is such a crucial step for giving crochet pieces a professional finish. Here, I'm blocking a delicate lacey square to open up the pattern and define its shape. There are 22 more waiting in line for the same treatment for a big project.
The reality of a crafter's life before a trip. Instead of packing, I'm often found stressing over finishing a project, surrounded by a sea of granny squares. Each square is a small victory on the way to a larger creation.
The creative process involves so many decisions. Here are some granny squares for a project, and I'm trying to decide on the best color to join them with. Should I go with a tan brown for a fall vibe or ivory for a festive feel?
I made these cute little flowers using a beautiful shaded yarn, which gives them a lovely color-changing effect. Now I'm looking for inspiration. I'd love to know what you think I should use them for.
About Behind the Stitches: My Creative Process
Crochet is rarely perfect on the first try, and that is exactly why I love it. Whether I am blocking delicate lace squares to define their shape or deciding between a rustic tan and crisp ivory border, my process is slow and intentional. You will see how I navigate these decisions, and sometimes, how I rely on my maa to help me fix a dropped stitch.
My approach to crochet is about slowing down. In my Sector 40, Noida studio, I avoid synthetic materials entirely, preferring natural cotton and bamboo-blend yarns. This choice is not just for texture, it is about keeping things gentle for your skin and the environment.
When you look through my process, you will notice techniques like blocking. It might look simple, but it is a vital step for turning a loose square into a professional piece. If you are joining my workshops, this is part of the craft I teach. We focus on the basics like foundation chains and stitches, but we also cover the reality of fixing mistakes.
We all get stuck, and that is okay. I often show students how to pick up dropped stitches or troubleshoot a pattern that is not working out. It is part of the slow fashion journey. My classes are designed to be personal. Whether you are looking for a one-on-one session to rescue a complex project or a group workshop to learn from scratch, you will find a space that is patient and encouraging. If you have a dream project in mind, bring your inspiration and let us figure out the patterns together.
