About Festival & Traditional Portraits
When I shoot festivals like Sankranti or Pongal, I do not ask you to stand still and smile for the camera. We spend time getting the lighting right in a traditional setting, but the actual moments, like sharing sugarcane, arranging the kolam, or laughing with family, happen naturally while I stay in the background to catch them.
Festivals are about more than just rituals. They are about the shared laughter, the traditional clothes you spent time selecting, and the heritage that connects generations. My approach to festival photography is grounded in observation.
Whether it is a vibrant Pongal celebration or a quiet, sacred naming ceremony, I look for the small stories. The way your grandmother smiles when the lamps are lit, the colors of a fresh rangoli, or the shared joy over a traditional meal. These are not just events, they are family legacies.
I focus on creating portraits that feel real, not stiff. Whether we are shooting at a home in Hebbal or a local traditional farmhouse, I use the environment to frame you, letting you move and interact naturally. My goal is to ensure you can look back at these images twenty years from now and still feel the warmth of the day.
Why these sessions feel different:
- No forced poses: We let the energy of the occasion dictate the flow.
- Focus on detail: From the intricate embroidery on a half-saree to the gold jewelry, I make sure the details you care about are preserved.
- Real light: I avoid heavy studio flashes whenever possible, preferring to work with soft, natural light to keep the skin tones warm and authentic.
If you have a traditional event coming up and want to capture the soul of the celebration rather than just the setup, let's talk. I am happy to walk through how we can plan a short, low-stress session.
Iris Photography
I am Parthiban. I started Iris Photography because I realized that the best stories are not told, they are caught when no one is looking. I love the chaos and color of our traditional festivals, and I am here to make sure you get to relive those moments long after the garlands are taken down.
