Heavy Silk & Bridal Muhurtham Draping
Structural Sculpting
- Silhouette Contouring: Techniques to contour the waist and hip to avoid the bulky look common with stiff silk sarees.
- On-Site Ironing: Pressing of 5 to 7 razor-sharp front pleats using a steam iron or straightener to ensure a vertical fall without flaring.
- Ritual Security: Usage of heavy-duty safety pins at anchor points (waist, shoulder) to withstand sitting, standing, and walking during ceremonies.
Traditional Detailing
- Waist Belt Setting: Pleats adjusted to accommodate an Oddiyanam (waist belt) or key bunch without disrupting the saree fall.
- Border Alignment: Intricate pleating of the pallu to display the zari border, pinned discretely to the blouse shoulder.
- Fabric Management: Handling of heavy weaves like Banarasi and Dharmavaram to break stiffness without damaging the zari.
Essentials
- Timing: Available for early morning Muhurtham schedules.
- Kit: Includes provider-supplied rust-proof pins, clips, and fabric tape.
Reception & Light Fabric Draping
Fluid Fabric Techniques
- Delicate Handling: Usage of fine-gauge pins for slippery materials (Satin, Chiffon, Crepe) to prevent visible holes in delicate fabrics.
- Volume Management: Techniques to flatten fluffy fabrics like Organza or Tissue so they sit close to the body rather than ballooning.
- Shapewear Adaptation: Adjusting the drape over can-can skirts or shapewear to ensure a smooth glide over added volume.
Styling & Comfort
- Modern Variations: Options for Open Pallu, Mermaid style, or neatly pinned reception looks.
- Dance-Proofing: Strategic pinning to allow leg movement and dancing without pleats coming undone.
- Speed: Turnaround time of approx 15 to 20 minutes, suitable for guests and family members.
- Heel Adjustment: Draping length aligned specifically to heel height to prevent tripping.
About Saree Draping
A hairstyle’s never complete without the right saree drape, if you ask me. The way a saree sits can totally change how you feel about your whole look, especially on your big day.
Focus on Muhurtham & Traditions
I’m honestly obsessed with the South Indian bridal saree draping, especially for muhurtham. Those crisp pleats, the proper way the pallu falls, making room for your Oddiyanam and all the jewellery - I like things to look pakka (spot on). My thing is: sharp pleats, saree pinned just right, and you don’t have to stress about anything coming loose mid-ritual.
For Every Occasion
It’s not just weddings - I drape sarees for engagements, Gange Pooje, baby showers, and even pre-wedding photoshoots. Different occasions, different feels, but I always keep comfort and style in mind. No one wants to keep adjusting their saree in every photo!
Classic to Modern Styles
Love Kanjivaram silks? I’m all in. Want something trendy for a lighter organza saree? I’ve got ideas. Half-saree for those fun events? Done that too. Saree draping for wedding muhurtham or modern saree styles for photoshoots - I just go with what suits you best.
Teamwork for the Perfect Look
Usually, I do hair and saree draping together, and I’m used to working with different makeup artists in Bangalore. All that matters is, when you look in the mirror, you feel chennagide (so beautiful).

My Story
Hey, I’m Ramya! Born and raised in Namma Bengaluru, I’m that person who gets super excited about weddings, especially those classic South Indian ones. Saree, jewellery, flowers, and of course - the hair, kannu muchko (can’t help it)! Whether I’m working on a muhurtham braid or soft curls for reception, I just love seeing that happy bride smile at the end. For me, it’s not just work, it’s pure joy.
