About Urban Vegetable Gardening
Why I Garden
Gardening on my terrace is what keeps me sane. It's not just about greenery - it's my way to get some peace in this crazy city life. Sometimes I mess up, lose plants to pests (even to peacocks, seriously!), but that's part of the fun. Ahista ahista (slowly, slowly), you learn to be patient and hopeful.
What We Can Grow
Delhi ki winter or summer, sab kuch grow kar sakte hain (In Delhi, you can grow almost everything). Winter brings carrots, palak (spinach), turnips, and the classics like tomatoes and broccoli. Summer is all about ghiya (bottle gourd), cucumbers, bhindi (ladyfinger), and even watermelon. I help you pick the right sabjiyan (veggies) for each season using a simple seasonal vegetable planting guide.
Getting Started
You don't need fancy stuff. A good seedling mix (half cocopeat, half compost, bit of haldi for fungus), and knowing which seeds go straight into pots or need a tray first - that's all. Transplanting happens in the evening, quietly, so plants don't get stressed.
Keeping It Organic
I'm big on clean food. We use homemade compost - kitchen waste like banana peels and eggshells work wonders. Neem khali and neem oil sprays keep bugs away. No chemicals, bas ghar ka khaad (just homemade fertilizer).
Terrace Gardening Jugaad (Hacks)
Space is tight, but I've built DIY raised beds from tin sheets, stuffed with dry leaves and cardboard. We'll use companion planting and go vertical with ropes and stakes for vining plants. A green net is a must for Delhi's sun.
Your First Harvest
There's nothing like tasting your own homegrown tomato. The journey is full of ups and downs, but the reward is asli (real) flavor and a sense of achievement. I’ll help you every step, no matter your space or experience.

My Story
Hi, I'm Himanshu. If you ask my friends, they'll say 'Sab ped paudho main lga dia' (I spent all my money on plants) - and yeah, guilty as charged. My terrace is my Green Heaven, built with my own hands, sweat, and a bit of madness. It’s not all rosy - back pain, soil bags, and a peacock who loves my seedlings more than I do! Gardening is slow, ahista ahista, but the happiness of eating your own tomato is worth every bit.
