Nurturing Emotional Intelligence in Early Childhood
I believe emotional well-being is the bedrock of all learning. Through mindful routines and play, we help children build empathy, resilience, and the confidence to express themselves.
A child practicing mindfulness is a powerful sight. We integrate simple practices like deep breathing into our daily routines, helping children develop self-awareness and a sense of inner calm from a very early age.
Movement can be mindful too. We use playful 'animal walks' like the kangaroo hop and tortoise walk to teach children about balancing energy with calmness, helping them develop body awareness and self-regulation skills.
Music is a wonderful tool for mindfulness. In this activity, children explore different sounds, learning to listen closely and focus their attention. It’s a calming sensory experience that we call 'music to our ears'.
From hiding behind her mom to sharing a teacup with a friend. This is what emotional growth looks like. We guide children to develop empathy and social skills through play, helping them build meaningful connections.
We help children handle everyday struggles with empathy and calmness. Our 'calm down' routines and gratitude circles are part of the spiritual quotient in our curriculum, teaching them to pause, reflect, and connect with themselves.
The 'Daan Utsav' or festival of giving is a perfect opportunity to teach empathy in action. Our children and their families come together to donate items, learning the joy and importance of making a difference in the community.
About this collection
Most parents worry about academics, but I focus on what happens before the learning starts: emotional regulation. Whether we are using 'animal walks' to channel high energy or gratitude circles to shift a mood, we teach kids to identify their feelings rather than acting them out. I have seen children go from separation anxiety at the gate to independently managing their feelings in class, and I can teach you the same routines to use at home.
Emotional intelligence is not something a child is just born with; it is a skill we nurture every day. In our preschool programs in Vidyaranyapura, we move beyond binary commands like 'don't cry' or 'be quiet' and instead use the HEUREKA curriculum to give children the vocabulary and the 'how-to' for their emotions.
The EPICS Approach to Growth
We use the EPICS framework—Emotional, Physical, Intellectual, Creative, and Spiritual—to ensure we aren't just teaching a syllabus. For example, when a child struggles with screen time or mealtime fussiness, we don't just tell parents to restrict it. We provide tools like:
- Mindful Movements: Using 'kangaroo hops' and 'tortoise walks' to help children balance their energy levels.
- Visible Thinking Routines: Simple prompts that encourage children to pause and reflect before reacting.
- Gratitude Circles: Daily practices that help children connect with their inner calm and acknowledge others, which builds empathy.
Moving from Meltdowns to Mindfulness
Many parents come to me feeling exhausted by tantrums or clinginess. Through our private consultations and parent workshops, we break down why these behaviors happen. We look at the 'why' behind the tears. By implementing small, consistent routines—what we call our 'second home' philosophy—we help you build a relationship with your child that is based on trust, not just discipline.
Whether you need a 60-minute strategy session to handle a specific behavioral hurdle or want to join our informal coffee mornings to discuss parenting with a supportive community, I am here to walk that path with you. My goal is to ensure you feel supported in raising a child who is not only smart but also kind, resilient, and deeply connected to themselves.
