Laser Hair Reduction: Your Questions Answered
Laser hair reduction is not just about beauty, it's about comfort. I’m here to break down the science, manage your expectations, and help you decide if it's the right fit for your skin.
In this session, I answer some frequently asked questions. I cover whether the results are permanent, the best age to start, the most common treatment areas, and the limitations of the procedure, such as its ineffectiveness on grey hair.
Laser hair reduction is a very common and effective treatment for men. I often perform it for beard shaping, removing hair on the ear lobes, or cleaning up the neckline. It's a safe and hassle-free way to get rid of the daily need for shaving and trimming.
Understanding the skin-related signs of PCOS, like increased facial hair growth, is the first step. Even if your periods are regular, these clinical signs are important to watch for. A proper diagnosis helps us create the right treatment plan for you.
Proper aftercare is crucial for the best results, especially in the summer. I recommend avoiding direct sun exposure for at least two weeks before and after your treatment and keeping your skin well-moisturized to ensure it stays healthy.
About Your LHR Questions Answered
Before you jump into any laser sessions, please know that it is not a magic switch. We start with a mandatory skin analysis to check for hormonal factors like PCOS or active skin conditions. This helps me create a plan that works for your specific hair growth and skin sensitivity, ensuring you get the results you want without damaging your skin barrier.
Is laser hair reduction permanent?
It is a long-term reduction, not a total elimination. You can expect about 80 to 90 percent reduction in hair growth. After your initial 6 to 8 sessions, you might notice fine hair growing back, which is why we do maintenance sessions. It is definitely better than the daily struggle of shaving or the pain of waxing.
Can men get it done?
So no no no no, it is not just for women. Many men come to me for beard shaping, cleaning up their necklines, or removing hair on their ear lobes. It is absolutely safe and a very practical way to get rid of daily shaving irritation. If you have high hair volume, we can simply reduce the growth rate for a neater look.
I have PCOS. Will this work?
If you have clinical PCOS, you might see more facial or jawline hair growth. Laser is very effective here, but we must manage the root cause too. We will check your hormonal health during our consultation to set realistic expectations. Laser won't fix the hormonal imbalance, but it will definitely manage the cosmetic symptoms.
What about aftercare?
This is where most people go wrong. Avoiding direct sun exposure for at least two weeks before and after treatment is non-negotiable to prevent pigmentation. Keep your skin well-moisturized, and please, stop waxing between sessions. If you wax, you pull out the root, and the laser has nothing to target. Keep it simple and follow the protocol I give you.
