About this collection
Monochrome is not just a filter. When I shoot in black and white, I look for textures, shadows, and the specific way light hits your face. This style works best when you want to shift the focus from the outfits or the location to the actual chemistry between you. Whether we are in the historic corridors of a Jaisalmer fort or a minimalist living room, these photos often become the most cherished portraits in an album because they possess a classic quality that does not date.
When color is removed, the composition, the pose, and the expression become the entire narrative. I often recommend including a black and white segment in our shoot, especially for couples who want a high-fashion, editorial aesthetic that remains relevant years later.
Why choose black and white?
In chaotic or colorful environments like the bustling streets of Old Delhi or the intricate carvings of Amer Fort, color can sometimes distract the eye. A monochromatic edit allows me to isolate a subtle glance or a tender touch, making it the focal point. It brings out the dramatic contrast in natural lighting, which is particularly effective during our sunrise or golden hour shoots.
The technical approach
To achieve that timeless look, I focus on contrast and grain. My team and I use off-camera lighting to create deep shadows and bright highlights, emphasizing the shape of your silhouette against backdrops like the Jaisalmer dunes or urban architecture. You do not need specific outfits for this—it works equally well with formal evening wear or casual denim and leather jackets.
Planning your shoot
We typically dedicate a portion of our session to these classic portraits. Whether it is a luxury home shoot in Chandigarh or a destination session in Rajasthan, we will discuss how to integrate these shots to give your album a balanced, cinematic feel. If you are leaning towards a retro, moody, or old-world theme, let us discuss how to tailor the lighting to make those specific moments stand out.
