When designing for kids, I focus on modular furniture that adapts as they grow. We often use convertible desk-and-bed setups or adjustable shelving units, ensuring the room remains functional even as your child's needs change from primary school play to secondary school study sessions.
Designing for Play and Growth
Designing a bedroom for a child is about balancing their imagination with the reality of daily life. In Bangalore, where space is often at a premium, I rely on smart vertical designs. My loft-bed structures, for example, incorporate study desks or reading nooks underneath, which effectively doubles the usable floor space in a 10x10 room.
My Design Process
- The 3D Walkthrough: Before we finalize anything, I create a 3D visualization. This helps you see exactly how the room will look, allowing us to tweak the color palette or furniture layout so you can be confident in the final result.
- Safety First: I use high-quality PVC edge banding on all furniture to soften sharp corners, keeping active kids safe during playtime.
- Built to Last: I use moisture-resistant plywood and durable laminates that are easy to clean. Whether it is a messy art project or a spilled drink, the surfaces are designed to handle the wear and tear of childhood.
Themed Bedrooms
Whether your child is into space, sports, or nature, I love integrating these themes without making the room feel like it will expire in six months. By keeping the core furniture neutral, we can use wall art, decals, and lighting to create the theme, making it easy to refresh the decor as they get older without needing a total room overhaul.
