Engraving isn't just about the surface, it is about permanence. When I engrave a date or a name onto a glass or bottle, I use a high-speed diamond-tipped drill that bites into the material. There is no going back once that first line is cut, which is why I trace the design with a marker first to ensure the flow is perfect. It is a slow, quiet process that requires absolute focus, but it turns a mass-produced item into something that belongs only to you.
How I approach customisation
I treat every object as a canvas, whether it is a luxury fragrance bottle, a whiskey glass, or a simple wine bottle. The goal is not just decoration, but to anchor a memory.
The Process
- Surface Preparation: For painting, I clean the glass to ensure the acrylics bond properly. For engraving, I stabilize the item on a sand-filled cushion so it does not slip under the drill bit.
- Design & Flow: I prefer freehand work because it feels more alive than stencils. If you have a specific quote, date, or name, I map the placement first so it complements the shape of the object.
- Finish: Engraved pieces are permanent and dishwasher safe, though I always recommend hand-washing to keep the surface pristine. Painted items are sealed with a protective varnish to prevent scratching.
