There is a timeless elegance to Copperplate calligraphy. This video shows a glimpse into the practice, from the beautifully designed workbook to the mindful process of forming each letter with an oblique pen and ink. It's a script that requires patience and rewards you with stunning results.
This screenshot shows reviews from students who have taken my workshops, including one who specifically mentions the step-by-step guidance in my Copperplate calligraphy class. My goal is to be a patient instructor who can guide you through the learning process.
About Advanced Copperplate Calligraphy
Copperplate is not just about holding a pen, it is about respecting the slant and pressure. If you are coming from modern calligraphy, expect this to feel like unlearning some habits. I run these sessions in small groups because I need to see your strokes live. We spend 10 hours over four days focusing on structure, not just pretty letters. It is demanding, it is precise, and it is rewarding if you are ready to commit.
This workshop is for the serious student. We move away from the fluid freedom of modern lettering and focus on the rigid, timeless rules of traditional Copperplate. You will learn the importance of a 55-degree slant, consistent pressure, and the specific mechanics that make this script elegant.
What we cover
We dedicate 10 hours over 4 days to the technical side of the craft. This is not a hobbyist session where we just doodle. We analyze letterforms, discuss the flow of ink, and I personally review your assignments during class to correct your grip and stroke technique.
The kit
You get a specialized kit delivered to your home. It includes a high-grade practice workbook with strict guidelines, a professional oblique pen holder, and nibs chosen specifically for the flexibility required for Copperplate. Having the right tools is half the battle, and I ensure you have exactly what you need before we start.
Why this approach
I don't provide recordings because this is an active, live process. You need to be there to get feedback, ask questions, and share the doubts that inevitably come up. If you are looking to master the discipline of traditional calligraphy rather than just picking up a new pastime, this course is where you belong.
Rachna Takawale
I used to be a calligrapher in a 9-5, but now I let art take the lead. I teach these intensive sessions because I want to help you find the focus and calm I discovered when I stopped chasing perfection and started mastering the craft.
