Not all hair transplants are successful. Poorly performed procedures can lead to scarring and unnatural growth. It is vital to choose your clinic wisely. If you need a correction, we are here to help.
About Correcting a Bad Hair Transplant
If your hairline looks like a row of doll hair or you are dealing with visible scarring, these are usually results of improper graft angles or depth control during the first procedure. I focus on the correction of these technical errors by first assessing the health of your existing grafts, rather than just adding more density on top of a mess.
Why did the first one fail?
Many patients come to me frustrated after a procedure elsewhere. Often, the issue is not just that the hair did not grow. It is about technique. An unnatural hairline, 'pluggy' results, or scarring are usually caused by incorrect graft angles, lack of depth control, or harvesting too many follicles from the donor area too quickly.
How I approach corrections
Fixing a bad hair transplant is harder than doing it right the first time. I always tell my patients: we have to prepare the 'zameen' (soil) before we plant the seeds.
- Assessment: We look at your scalp under dermoscopy to see what we are working with. Are the roots damaged? Is there fibrosis or scar tissue?
- Strategy: We do not just cover the bad work. If the hairline is too straight or too low, we may need to remove misplaced grafts before designing a soft, irregular, natural-looking hairline.
- Technique: I use our Instant FUE method here. By extracting and implanting simultaneously, we reduce the time follicles spend outside the body, which is crucial when your donor area is already limited from a previous surgery.
Can it be fixed?
In most cases, yes. Whether you have poor growth, wide scars in the donor area, or simply hate the new hairline, there is a solution. If you are worried, just send me clear photos of your hairline and donor area. I will give you an honest opinion on whether a correction is possible or if we need to focus on medical management first.
