Beyond the kitchen, I love applying the same rigor to every corner of your home, turning awkward spaces into moments of daily joy.

Vertically opening cabinets are a smart design choice that saves space and makes accessing upper shelves easier. This is one of those features that adds convenience and a little bit of everyday magic to your kitchen.

Open shelving looked great on Pinterest… until real life happened. If yours has turned into a cluttered mess instead of a beautifully styled display, don’t worry—it’s all about balance. The key? Mix practicality with aesthetics. Keep everyday essentials within reach, group similar items for a cohesive look, and use a mix of textures (think ceramics, glass, and wood) to add warmth. Baskets and trays help contain the chaos while still keeping things accessible.

This open shelf, positioned at the kitchen entrance, is more than just storage; it’s a showcase for personality. Styled with artisanal ceramics, cookbooks, and greenery, it creates a natural transition that makes the kitchen feel open and inviting.

The brass railing on this open shelf is a small but elegant detail. It keeps cookbooks and decor items secure while adding a touch of warmth and sophistication to the wooden shelving.

When styling kitchen shelves, I think of them as little stages for everyday joy. Adding fresh herbs brings life and fragrance to the space, keeping inspiration close at hand.

Dedicate a section of your open shelving to essentials like cookbooks, vases, and napkins. This not only keeps them organized but also turns them into a beautiful, curated display.

Lining up everyday cups and bowls on open shelves creates a sense of easy rhythm. The under-shelf lighting adds a warm glow, highlighting the simple beauty of your daily-use ceramics.

The beauty of this kitchen is in its unexpected details. The cabinets are clad in real copper, giving them a modern yet rustic warmth that feels both timeless and unique.

This tall unit features a glass-fronted crockery section and narrow-depth cabinetry, continuing the warm copper story from the rest of the kitchen. It’s a beautiful example of turning a structural element into a design feature.

We turned an otherwise wasted column into a beautiful and functional storage unit. The narrow-depth cabinets and glass-fronted crockery unit are finished in wood, while the adjacent open shelves are clad in copper for a warm, soft touch.

About Additional Work

Every home has those tricky corners—a dead column, a tiny pantry, or an empty wall—that often get overlooked. In these projects, I focus on transforming those problem areas into functional art, whether it is a copper-clad cabinet that adds warmth or a slim kitchenette that brings utility to a small room. It is about proving that good design is not reserved for large layouts, but can be unlocked in the smallest of spaces if you treat it with enough thought.
