A glimpse into my 25-year journey of living, researching, and curating the folk dances of India. This collection showcases the scale of my productions, my academic contributions, and my passion for preserving the authentic stories of our land through dance.
Event Curation & Large-Scale Productions
I specialize in conceptualizing and directing large-scale cultural productions for festivals, government events, and corporate functions. From coordinating a handful of artists to managing a troupe of over 600 performers, I handle everything from initial script to final performance, ensuring an authentic and impactful experience.
Academic Contributions & Publications
My work is grounded in deep academic research, which I share through publications, papers, and lectures. My book, "Nrutya Beru," is a comprehensive study of Karnataka's folk dances, and I regularly present my findings at national and international seminars to foster scholarly discussion.
Cultural Fieldwork: Documenting Living Traditions
To truly understand folk traditions, one must witness them in their native environment. I travel extensively across the country to document rituals, festivals, and performances, capturing the stories and cultural context directly from the communities that keep them alive. This fieldwork is the soul of my research and curation.
Performances & Choreography
I direct and choreograph performances for my troupe, Bhramari Dance Repertoire, and other collaborators. We present a range of pieces, from traditional folk and classical forms to theatrical dance dramas, performing on proscenium stages, in temple courtyards, and as part of vibrant street processions.
Workshops & Mentorship
Passing on knowledge is a sacred duty. I conduct workshops on Indian traditional choreography for dancers and theatre artists, and guide my students through their own artistic journeys, including their Rangapravesha (debut performance). I also lead educational field trips to cultural sites.
My Journey: Roots & Milestones
Every artist's journey has a beginning. This is a personal look at my own story, from my first steps as a young dancer to my formal debut (Rangapravesha) and the gurus and family who have been the pillars of my strength.
Media Features & Collaborations
My work has been featured on various media platforms, including television and podcasts, where I get to share my passion for folk arts with a wider audience. I also cherish the opportunity to meet and collaborate with esteemed artists and scholars from across the country.
