About The Art of Traditional Motifs
I do not use chemical cones, only my own jaggery-infused organic henna mix that yields a deep, rich stain. When choosing a traditional motif like an elephant or peacock for your palms, I recommend planning for a two to three-hour session to capture the fine detailing and architectural shading required for that truly royal look.
When you opt for traditional Indian motifs, you are choosing a timeless aesthetic. My approach centers on precision and balance, whether we are sketching royal elephants, graceful peacocks, or intricate jharokha (window) frames.
Why These Motifs Matter
Traditional does not have to mean repetitive. I focus on creating a flow that complements your hand anatomy. Architectural elements like gates and domes provide a structured background, allowing the figurative elements like swans or lotuses to stand out.
The Design Process
We start by discussing your preferences. Do you want full palm coverage with central figurative art, or perhaps a design that extends up the forearm? For these complex designs, I prioritize symmetry. If you are having a destination wedding, we can plan the motifs to match the theme of your venue or your outfit.
A Note on Quality
My signature gud (jaggery) mehendi is essential for this style. Because traditional designs often involve heavy shading and filling, you need a high-quality, organic paste that stains dark and deep. It creates the contrast necessary to make the details, such as the fine lines on a peacock feather, truly visible.
