Our Featured Architectural Works and Design Philosophy
We believe architecture should not impose, but listen. This collection represents our philosophy of bringing nature, history, and light into every structure we design across India.
This view from the Radisson Resort in Lonavala captures the essence of our work. The architecture frames the natural landscape, creating a seamless connection between the built form and the surrounding topography, a principle that guides all our designs.
For the BCG Headquarters in Mumbai, we reimagined the corporate environment. This view looks up through a 'skylit' circular courtyard, a core element that brings light and air deep into the vertical campus, echoing the industrial past of the city.
The Lateral Verandah House in Lonavala is designed to merge with the hillside. The unique timber frame structure and infinity pool create a space that feels both sheltered and completely open to the expansive views.
In the Sampurna Residence, we used a curving brick wall to create an 'animated streetscape' within the home. This element guides movement and defines space, transforming a simple corridor into an artistic and experiential journey.
Light is a material we sculpt. In the J-House, these operable metal screens, a modern interpretation of the traditional *jaali*, modulate sunlight to create dynamic patterns, filling the space with a serene, diffused glow while ensuring privacy.
Our process begins by listening to the site. At the K-Lagoon residence, we designed the structure around existing trees, allowing this one to grow through the roof, a testament to our belief that architecture should coexist harmoniously with nature.
The design process is a fluid conversation between hand and mind. Here, I am sketching the core concept for the Sampurna Residence, translating the idea of traditional village streets and courtyards into a blueprint for modern urban living.
Our integrated design and build approach ensures that the vision is executed with precision. On-site, we oversee every detail, from the structural framework to the installation of complex elements, ensuring the integrity of the design is carried through to completion.
We believe in giving old structures new life. At IF.BE, a repurposed ice factory, the space becomes a stage for cultural discourse and performance, demonstrating how adaptive reuse can serve as a seed for urban regeneration and community engagement.
The House of Solid Stone in Jaipur explores the structural and cooling properties of stone. Operable, hand-cut stone screens shade the interiors, modulating light and temperature through traditional methods adapted for contemporary life.
About Featured
When we approach a site, we look for the gaps where the architecture can breathe. Whether it is inserting a central courtyard to induce passive cooling or using exposed brick and stone to regulate thermal mass, our focus is on how a building interacts with its specific environment. Before you connect with us, think about whether you want a space that resists the local climate or one that works in tandem with it.
Architecture as a Dialogue
Our process is not about imposing a pre-set visual style. It is about uncovering the language inherent to the land. We see our role as custodians of space, utilizing a forensic examination of the site's history, climate, and topography to guide our design decisions.
The Elements of Our Practice
-
Bioclimatic Design: We prioritize passive cooling strategies. By incorporating internal courtyards, operable stone screens (a modern evolution of the traditional jaali), and strategic structural voids, we reduce reliance on mechanical HVAC systems. This is evident in our residential projects where temperature regulation is achieved through material density and ventilation.
-
Adaptive Reuse: We view heritage buildings not as objects to be preserved in amber, but as living frameworks. At projects like IF.BE, we focused on the 'suturing' of the found and the made, creating a liminal space that facilitates urban regeneration. We believe in strengthening the existing bones of a structure to give it a new, sustainable life.
-
Material Honesty: Our palette is rooted in the earth. We favor hand-cast terrazzo, river-washed basalt, and wire-cut brick. These materials are chosen for their tactility and ability to age gracefully, reflecting the passage of time rather than masking it.
Integrated Turnkey Services
We provide an end-to-end service that encompasses architecture and interior design. By integrating the design and construction phases, we ensure that the conceptual intent survives the transition to the site. Our team manages every aspect of the project, from structural reconfigurations to the installation of interior joinery, ensuring that the final output feels like a coherent, thoughtful response to the original brief.
Malik Architecture
We do not see ourselves as authors of a space, but as catalysts for its natural order. We approach every project—be it a private villa or a corporate campus—as an exercise in listening to the land and allowing the architecture to emerge from that silence.
