Behind the Scenes: My Bharatanatyam Practice & Journey

Dance isn't just the final performance. It's in the early morning rehearsals, the silent temple halls where I practice, and the pure joy of movement. Here’s a peek into the practice that fuels my art.

Sometimes you just have to dance. During a visit to a temple in Hampi, the beautiful pillared hall inspired me to do this impromptu piece. It shows that dance isn't just for the stage; it's a part of life.

This is the official announcement for 'LASYA', a classical dance series where I performed. Creating and promoting a show is part of the journey, allowing me to share my theme, 'Anubhava - A Divine Experience', with a wider audience.

About this collection

Most people see the stage lights, but for me, the magic happens in the quiet, unscripted hours of practice. Whether it is finding a rhythm in a silent temple hall in Hampi or the intense, sweaty preparation behind a production like 'LASYA', this is where my dance truly comes alive. It is rarely perfect on the first try, but that is the beauty of the journey—it is spontaneous, a bit messy, and always a prayer in motion.

The Reality of Practice

People often ask if dance is always graceful. The truth? Often, it involves aching feet, hours spent mastering a single Adavu, and endless repetitions of Konnakol.

My practice is rooted in the Guru-Shishya parampara, a tradition that demands discipline but rewards you with a deep understanding of the art. When you see me performing, you are seeing the result of those quiet, disciplined mornings.

Spontaneity in Tradition

Bharatanatyam is deeply classical, yet it finds its way into my daily life. Whether it is an impromptu piece in a pillared temple hall or dancing at a family celebration, I believe dance shouldn't be confined to a studio.

What You Can Expect

If you join my classes in Mumbai, this is the vibe I bring. We balance the rigid structure of Margam with the emotional storytelling of Abhinaya.

  • For Beginners: We build a solid foundation with Taalam and footwork.
  • For Experienced Dancers: We dive into advanced Nattuvangam and complex thematic compositions.
  • For Everyone: We focus on the why behind the movement. Why does this mudra matter? How do we hold the emotion in our eyes?

Dance is a journey, and I would love for you to be a part of it. Whether you are looking for 1-on-1 technique correction or a group setting to find your rhythm, let's get started.
