Backyard Landscape Transformations and Design
We turn plain Ohio backyards into functional outdoor living spaces. Here is a look at some of our favorite hardscape and garden projects from around Delaware and the Columbus area.
This is a good example of a complete outdoor living space I designed. It includes a paver walkway that leads to a patio with a fire pit and a covered seating area, making the yard much more usable.
Sometimes the biggest change comes from defining the space. Here you can see how adding a clean mulch bed with a rock border expanded the feel of the patio and tied it into the rest of the yard.
I enjoy integrating different elements. This project combined a paver patio with a small pond and waterfall, surrounded by perennial flowers like daylilies and daisies for color.
This was a fun project next to a classic red barn. I installed a curving paver walkway and used a variety of shrubs and groundcover to add color and texture along the path.
A stone fire pit on a paver patio is a popular request and something I've been building for years. It creates a natural gathering spot for family and friends on cool evenings.
For new homes, I can design and install hardscaping from a blank slate. This circular paver inlay adds a custom touch to a new walkway and patio entrance.
The details matter. A close look at a water lily in a pond I installed shows how the right plants can bring a water feature to life.
About Featured
When planning a patio or garden refresh, the most critical step is not the pavers or the plants, it is the base preparation. Whether we are building a fire pit or installing a pond, we excavate 6 to 8 inches for hardscapes and use fish-safe liners for water features so your investment actually holds up through Ohio's changing seasons.
Our work relies on the idea that a yard should be an extension of your home. We look at a blank, flat piece of grass and figure out how to add texture, purpose, and utility.
Hardscape and Patio Design
A patio is only as good as what is underneath it. For our paver installations, we dig out the area and install a 4-inch compacted aggregate base with a sand setting bed. This keeps the patio stable so it does not shift or pool water when the weather turns. We use polymeric sand in the joints to lock the pavers together and stop weeds from coming up through the cracks. Whether you want a simple walkway or a complex circular pattern, the goal is a surface that lasts.
Softscaping and Planting
Renovating a garden bed involves more than just digging holes. We start by clearing out dead turf and weeds, then rototilling the existing earth and mixing it with organic manure and red soil. We select plants like Hydrangeas, Ficus, and ornamental trees that handle our regional climate. By adding hand-cut or spade-cut borders, we separate the lawn from the beds to keep your maintenance time down.
Water Features
If you want a pond or waterfall, we treat it like a serious piece of construction. We use 45-mil EPDM rubber liners and install bio-filtration systems so the water stays clear and healthy. We hide all the liner materials using natural boulders and river rock, integrating the pond into the surrounding landscape rather than letting it look like an artificial addition.
