About Wilderness Trekking & Survival
Before you step onto a trail, you need to know what you are looking at. We train you in analog navigation because GPS fails when the batteries die or the tree canopy is too thick. You will learn to use a topographic map and a magnetic compass to find your own route, point to point, without relying on anyone else.
Beyond the Tourist Trail
Most trekking groups follow established paths from one tea stall to the next. That is not what we do. Wilderness trekking is about autonomy. It is about identifying a ridge on a map and having the confidence to traverse it, even when there is no visible trail.
The Skill Set
- Topographic Mastery: We move beyond phone apps. You will learn to read contour lines to understand elevation, identify valleys, and spot potential water sources before you even leave your base.
- Compass & Bearing: You will practice triangulation and following bearings in the dense thickets of Coorg or the rugged terrain of the Western Ghats. If you cannot find North, you are lost. We fix that.
- River & Terrain Assessment: Not every crossing is safe. We teach you how to assess water flow, find safe crossing points, and move through tall grass or steep inclines without injuring yourself or your team.
- Logistics & Prep: Proper gear choice matters. We teach you how to pack for self-supported treks, including water sourcing and emergency protocols.
Why Train With Us?
We are not tour guides; we are instructors. When you finish a course with BASCOOL, you should be able to lead yourself. We keep our student to instructor ratios low to ensure you get personal correction. If your form is off, you will hear it. It is direct, it is hands-on, and it will make you a safer, more capable explorer.
Bascool
I am the lead instructor at BASCOOL, and I do not just take you trekking; I teach you how to be a trekker. Whether it is correcting your posture mid-hike or showing you how to read a compass in the Western Ghats, my goal is to make you self-sufficient.
