About Finishing Touches & Pro Tips

Stop trusting your ironing mat blindly. If you are working with stone-work sarees or delicate fabrics, always double-check the iron's heat setting regardless of your mat. I always test on a small, hidden corner first. It is the one detail that saves expensive sarees from accidental heat damage.

Mastering the Details

The difference between a standard drape and a polished one lies in these small, technical steps. Whether you are prepping for a wedding or running your own pre-pleating business here in Bangalore, these skills are non-negotiable.

The Art of Fluffy Pleats

You do not need a curler or straightener for that voluminous, modern look. I teach a specific manual pleating method that creates volume naturally. It is about how you hold the fabric and the tension you apply before setting it with the iron. Practice is key, but the right technique means you can replicate this on any saree, from stiff Kanjeevarams to soft crepes.

Storage and Travel

Stop folding your sarees blindly. Hanger folding is the secret to keeping your pre-pleated work crisp. When you hang them properly, you avoid those stubborn horizontal creases that ruin the look of the drape. It makes packing for travel or organizing a client's order so much easier.

Fabric Care 101

My biggest advice: never overheat. When working with stone-work or delicate embroidery, use a heat-protection mat, but treat it as a buffer, not a firewall. Always keep your iron temperature below 200 degrees Celsius. If you are ever unsure, a simple cotton cloth between the iron and the saree is your safest tool.

Why These Tips Matter

I share these because I want my students—especially those starting their own home-based businesses—to be confident. When you know how to handle the fabric, you stop worrying about mistakes and start focusing on the art of the drape.
