We design commercial spaces that act as social anchors for the city. From breweries that embrace urban infrastructure to studios that offer quiet focus, our work creates an atmosphere where community and architecture converge.

The Biergarten brewery in Bellandur, a project that embraces its urban context, with the city's flyover and metro line cutting right through the site. We designed it as a raised urban courtyard, with open balconies where people can gather and watch the city life unfold around them.

The vibrant atmosphere at the Biergarten in Bellandur at night. We used dynamic lighting to animate the space and create a festive energy, turning the architectural surfaces into a canvas for light and color.

A glimpse of the Byg Brewski microbrewery in Hennur, a space designed to feel like a lush oasis within the city. We integrated large water bodies, dense greenery, and open-air structures to create a vibrant public gathering spot that connects people with nature.

A magazine feature on the Cinnamon store in Bengaluru, a project involving the conservation and adaptation of a historic building. The interior shows how we blended the original colonial-era columns with a clean, contemporary design to create a unique retail atmosphere.

A look inside Bob's Bar in Bengaluru, a space designed to evoke a sense of nostalgia and easy-going community. The black and white visuals highlight the classic decor, checkered floors, and comfortable atmosphere that encourages conversation and connection.

The multi-level interior of the Zanav Home Studio, a project that has evolved over many years. The design uses a raw steel structure and concrete steps to create a complex and interconnected workspace that is filled with natural light from above.

A detail of a staircase in the Zanav Home Studio, showing the combination of wood, steel, and concrete. The wear on the steps after more than a decade of use is a testament to the building being a well-loved and actively inhabited workspace.

The clean lines of a staircase at the Zanav Home Studio, designed in 2005. The design uses simple geometry and a restrained palette of white walls and wood treads to create a sense of calm and order.

An interior zen garden with polished floors and slatted blinds at the Zanav Home Studio. This space was designed as a quiet, contemplative corner within the larger studio, bringing natural elements indoors to create a peaceful atmosphere.

This short film explores our design philosophy for the Zanav Home project, focusing on the importance of light and the absence of color. The sketches show our process of thinking through details to find the right balance between what is needed and where to stop.

About Commercial & Hospitality Spaces

Designing for hospitality is not just about the layout; it is about how the space breathes with the city. At Biergarten Bellandur, we did not hide the adjacent flyover or metro lines; we embraced them as part of the architecture, turning a noisy urban site into a raised courtyard where the city's energy feeds the social experience.

Commercial and hospitality design requires a delicate balance between function and the story of the site. We treat every project—whether it is a bustling brewery or a quiet, professional studio—as a contributor to the city's social fabric.

Our approach is rooted in the reality of the site. For instance, at Biergarten, we navigated the constraints of a busy thoroughfare, transforming what could have been a liability into an asset. By creating a raised urban courtyard, we allowed the space to engage with the surrounding movement rather than sealing it off.

Similarly, for Byg Brewski in Hennur, we focused on creating a lush, nature-driven oasis, using water and greenery to establish a contrast with the city heat. These are not merely decorated venues; they are environments where light and spatial flow dictate how people interact.

We also bring our expertise in adaptive reuse architecture to commercial spaces, often repurposing old structures to retain their historical character while meeting modern operational needs. Whether through the use of exposed concrete, raw steel, or intricate lighting plans that highlight textures rather than masking them, our goal is to create spaces with a strong, permanent identity.

If you are planning an interior renovation or a new build, we believe in a process that is slow, deliberative, and site-specific. We prioritize structural integrity and material honesty, ensuring that the spaces we build are not just aesthetically pleasing but are durable, functional, and deeply tied to their location.

We are Nisha and Soumitro. Having spent three decades observing Bengaluru’s evolution, our practice is a direct response to the city—we do not hide from its noise, we find ways to design spaces that absorb it. We work with an unwavering belief that a built space should feel like it belongs entirely to its surroundings.
