Beyond the Courtroom: The Poet
Law is my profession, but poetry is how I process it. This is a glimpse into the human side of my practice beyond the court files and legal arguments.
On stage with the microphone, sharing a piece of my poetry. This is where I express the emotions that fuel my fight for justice.
In my element at PoetSpace. I write a poem before I shed a tear, channeling my experiences into words.
A moment of expressive performance. Sharing my shayari allows me to connect with people on a different, more personal level.
A smile in the spotlight. Performing poetry is a source of immense joy and a way for me to process the world around me.
About Beyond the Courtroom: The Poet
People often ask why a criminal defense lawyer spends time on stage. The truth is that whether I am drafting a bail application or writing a stanza, the intent remains the same: I listen to the unspoken story. Understanding the nuance of human emotion is exactly what helps me build a more empathetic and effective case for my clients in court.
Many clients come to me expecting only the 'Vakeel Sahiba'—the fierce, first-generation lawyer ready to fight in the High Court or district courts across Delhi NCR. They don't always expect to find someone who spends evenings at open mics in Delhi performing Urdu shayari.
Why the perspective matters
In criminal law, a case is rarely just about sections of the IPC or BNS. It is about human behavior, fear, circumstances, and intent. Writing poetry has taught me to observe the details that others miss. When I cross-examine a witness or draft a petition, I am not just looking for legal loopholes; I am reading the narrative of the situation. This ability to connect with people on a human level helps me represent your side of the story more effectively in front of a judge.
My approach to your case
My practice is built on being 'seedhi baat' (direct talk). Whether it is a bail matter at Tis Hazari or a complex criminal trial, my work is evidence-backed and strategy-driven. Being an artist just ensures that when I present your case, I do it with the clarity and conviction that a courtroom demands. I do not believe in separating my passions. My resilience as a first-generation legal advocate is fueled by the same creative spirit that fills my notebooks. If you need a lawyer who understands the human element behind every legal conflict, let's talk.
Kavita Sharma
I am Kavita. By day, I am a criminal defense lawyer dealing with the grit of courtrooms and police stations in Delhi NCR. By night, I turn to poetry. I have learned that the best arguments, like the best poems, are the ones that speak the truth without needing to shout.
