Modern Homes Integrated with Nature
I design residential spaces where nature serves as an active element of the structure. From internal courtyards and light-filled atriums to water bodies that act as the home's spine, my work focuses on dissolving the boundaries between indoors and the outdoors.
This narrow lap pool is tucked into a lightwell within the house, creating a private sanctuary. The water reflects the sky and the surrounding plants, bringing movement and nature into the heart of the home.
A small, open-to-sky courtyard is carved out on an upper floor, allowing a tree to grow within the home's footprint. This feature brings greenery and natural light directly into the adjacent bedroom and kitchen spaces.
The kitchen in this home opens directly onto an internal courtyard with a tree. This design allows for natural ventilation and provides a beautiful, green view while cooking.
A view of the indoor lap pool, which acts as a central spine for the home. The surrounding spaces are all oriented towards it, making it the focal point of the design.
Light from a skylight filters down onto the indoor pool and planters. This shows my commitment to creating bright, airy spaces that feel connected to nature, even in a dense urban setting.
An indoor-outdoor corridor in a 60x40 residence. The space features a cobblestone floor, an indoor planter, and a large opening to a garden, creating a seamless transition between the interior and exterior.
This internal courtyard in a Chennai home features a floating staircase above a pebble garden with lush plants. A large skylight floods the entire space with daylight, creating a vibrant green core for the house.
About this collection
Integrating nature into a residential build requires precise sun-path analysis to ensure courtyards bring in light without overheating the interior. I plan every water body and indoor planter with hidden drainage and structural waterproofing during the civil phase, ensuring these features remain functional and maintenance-free for the life of the home.
Biophilic Design in Urban Plots
In dense urban environments, true nature integration requires rethinking the building footprint. My approach treats the courtyard, pool, or garden not as an aesthetic afterthought, but as the core structural spine of the residence. By organizing spaces around these green or water-filled cores, I ensure that every room has a connection to the outside.
Technical Integration
I coordinate MEP layouts to ensure that plumbing for indoor water bodies and electrical points for landscape lighting are concealed within the structural shell. My structural concepts for features like floating stairs or cantilevered decks are designed to work alongside, not against, your vertical greenery or tall indoor trees. This requires collaboration during the early civil working drawing stage to manage load requirements and structural integrity.
Sustainable Climate Control
By prioritizing passive cooling through cross-ventilation and daylight optimization, I reduce the need for artificial lighting and climate control. Every residence is designed specifically for the Indian climate, utilizing honest materials like concrete, steel, and wood that age naturally with the environment. This minimizes long-term maintenance while maximizing the connection between your home and its surroundings.
