Apartment Interior Transformations

Reimagining standard apartment layouts to create open, light-filled, and modern living spaces through structural reconfiguration and minimalist design.

This before-and-after plan shows the transformation of a Jayanagar apartment. I removed several walls to create a large, open-plan living and dining area, improving circulation and bringing in more natural light.

The "floating wall" in this apartment renovation acts as a screen, creating a sense of entry without closing off the space. The dark, textured finish contrasts with the polished white floors.

The new open-plan living area. The large, modular sofa can be reconfigured for different uses, and the consistent color and material palette helps to unify the large, open space.

A walkthrough of the completed apartment interior. The video shows the effect of the concrete-finish ceiling and the integrated linear lighting that flows from one space to another.

This long, narrow balcony space is turned into a functional utility area and green corridor. A large pass-through window connects it directly to the kitchen, making it a practical extension of the home.

A minimalist bedroom design within an apartment. I used a floating bed with under-lighting and a simple, clean headboard to create a calm and uncluttered sleeping space.

Another bedroom in the same apartment, featuring a custom-designed headboard with integrated shelving and lighting. This provides ambient light and a functional workspace.

About this collection

Many Bangalore apartments are built with rigid, segmented layouts that restrict light and movement. My process starts by stripping away non-structural walls to reclaim floor area and redefine circulation. In the featured Jayanagar project, we removed internal partitions to convert a standard unit into an open-plan living and dining area, significantly improving natural light and spatial flow.

Apartment transformations require a precise balance between structural integrity and aesthetic clarity. When I take on a renovation, the first step is analyzing the existing framework to determine which walls can be safely removed to re-establish the flow. Traditional apartment layouts often waste square footage on dark hallways and cramped rooms. By reconfiguring these areas, I can integrate features like floating walls to demarcate entryways without creating visual clutter.

The material palette is selected to enhance the perception of space. I frequently use exposed concrete finishes, handleless cabinetry, and glass partitions to maintain a seamless, uncluttered look. Lighting is treated as a structural element, with linear profiles recessed into ceilings or walls to guide the eye and define different zones of the home.

We often incorporate custom joinery, such as floating beds or integrated shelving units, to maximize utility without adding bulk. Whether the requirement is a full apartment overhaul or a targeted renovation of a kitchen and living area, the objective is consistent: a functional, modern home that feels larger and brighter than the original plan allowed.
