I dive into the lost words of women poets from centuries ago to create narrative-driven Bharatanatyam. This production explores desire, faith, and activism through the eyes of the women who actually lived them.

About this collection

I don't just perform movements. I build a 60 to 75-minute narrative experience by combining dance with live musical accompaniment and theatrical lighting, ensuring the poetry of figures like Savitribai Phule or Andal resonates in the room. Before I start, I provide spoken English context for every piece, so you connect with the history and emotion, not just the technique.

A Research-Driven Approach

'Akhyāt: Ākhyānā' is the result of deep archival work. I spent years engaging with Pāli, Marathi, and Tamil texts to find women's voices that were sidelined in history. This show is my attempt to bring that research out of textbooks and onto the stage.

What You Get

When you book this production, you are getting more than a dancer. You are getting a full-scale thematic show.

  • The Narrative: We explore themes like female agency, devotion, and societal resistance.
  • The Musical Team: I work with a dedicated ensemble of musicians who understand the specific requirements of narrative dance. Their energy is a huge part of the experience.
  • The Production Value: We bring a dedicated lighting designer to handle transitions, silhouettes, and mood shifts that match the poetry.

Technical Needs

Because this is a theater-style production, I need a 60-minute sound check to ensure the acoustics work for both the live music and the spoken word introductions. If your venue has projection capabilities, we can also incorporate visual elements that deepen the storytelling.

Who This Is For

This show works best in intimate settings like arts centers, sabhas, or private baithaks where the audience can hear the nuances of the poetry. If you are looking for a performance that starts a conversation about gender and history, this is it.

I am a researcher first and a dancer second, and my work centers on uncovering the voices of women whose stories were sidelined over centuries. When I perform, I am looking for a real conversation with my audience, not just a passive viewing experience. I invite you to join me in exploring these narratives together.
