Capturing Wildlife in Natural Environments
Chasing wild moments from Indian forests to the South African coast, my lens focuses on patience, respect, and the natural world.
The golden light of sunset hit just right as this Sambar deer paused by a stream. Wildlife photography is about being present and ready for these quiet, magical encounters in nature.
During a road trip through South Africa, we came across this pair of Cape Mountain Zebras. Seeing them in their natural, rugged habitat was a highlight and a reminder of how incredible our planet’s wildlife is.
This video documents our first-ever pelagic birding trip off the coast of Cape Town. We were out on the high seas, capturing footage of rare ocean birds like albatrosses and shearwaters in their element.
About Wildlife Encounters
Wildlife photography is less about setting up a shot and more about being a patient observer. I spend hours scouting locations and waiting for that one moment when the animal feels comfortable enough to be itself, using my telephoto lens to maintain a respectful distance.
When I am out tracking wildlife—whether it is a Sambar deer near a stream or pelagic birds off the coast of Cape Town—my goal is simple. I want the final images to feel like a window into that specific, raw moment. My approach is strictly documentary. I do not believe in chasing animals or disturbing their natural flow. I carry my own gear, hike the trails, and put in the hours to scout locations based on the lighting conditions and the terrain.
For those planning their own nature photography expeditions, preparation is everything. We start by discussing the landscape and the specific species you hope to encounter. If we are birding, the focus is on shutter speed, timing, and understanding avian flight patterns. If it is larger game or mammals, it is about positioning and a deep respect for the ecosystem. I handle all the editing personally to ensure the colors and textures remain true to the raw experience we had on the field, delivering high-resolution images that keep the memory of the wild alive.
