About

Kānike means ‘gift’ in Kannada, and honestly, that sums up the space for me. It’s not a run-of-the-mill venue. I wanted a spot that feels like home for anyone who loves handmade, old-school, or analog things. Whether you’re coming to create, teach, or just chill with fellow artists, this place is all about community and giving you the freedom to do your thing.

What You Can Use the Space For

  • Creative workshop venue for pottery, ink painting, or even DIY camera making.
  • Small art exhibitions or open studios - bright white walls and concrete floors make your work stand out.
  • Intimate gigs and acoustic sets, poetry nights, or film screenings (don’t expect a concert hall vibe - it’s cozy, not huge).
  • Classes and recurring sessions, from languages to art lessons.
  • Photo or video shoots, especially if you want natural light and some cool textures.
  • Community meetups, book launches, or pop-ups.

Facilities & Details

  • Wooden tables and chairs you can move around as you like.
  • Loads of natural light, plus track lighting for those gallery feels.
  • Projector available for screenings or presentations.
  • Alternative photography studio features: a working darkroom, big UV light box for cyanotypes, and space for all sorts of old-school processes.
  • Best for groups of 6-10 (workshops) or 20-40 (gatherings), so things stay personal.

The Vibe

It’s friendly, a bit old soul, definitely not like a corporate event space. Kānike is run by artists, for artists. If you’re looking for a cozy community gathering place, this will feel right. And yeah, our studio cat Julie might come say hi.

My Story

We started Kanike in 2019, calling it a 'gift' - just like the word means in Kannada. This studio’s got its own vibe now, full of handmade, analog messiness we love. Our logo’s got old Kannada script feels, mixing past and present. Some of the best days? Teaching cyanotype to kids in Garike village, watching them run wild with it. Orma Petti (memory box) sits here, holding bits of everyone. We’re all about stories, co-creating, and just letting things happen.

My Work

Creative Events & Workshops - We host hands-on workshops like cyanotype photography, leathercraft, book-making, woodcut printmaking, and more.

Open to All - No need to be a pro. Anyone curious about making things is welcome. Small groups, all materials provided.

Analog & Handmade Focus - We love ink, wood, darkrooms – old-school techniques that bring a special kind of magic.

Community & Collaboration - We team up with local and international artists, run residencies, and get involved in community projects.
