About

At Kānike Studio, art is more than decoration - it's a gift, a kāṇike, something that brings people together. When you pick up a piece from us, you’re not just buying handmade art for sale, you’re joining the circle and helping artists keep the studio running.

How You Can Connect

  • We set up curated exhibitions, sometimes solo, sometimes group. Topics go deep - nostalgia, mental health, nature, shared identities. You’ll spot works from our artists-in-residence and sometimes collabs with friends from galleries in places like Delhi.
  • Our art markets get pretty lively - you’ll find everything from prints and sculptures to zines and odd finds. It’s all about making art easy to own and helping us build, like when we raised funds for our pottery lab.
  • Drop in for an open studio. No tickets, no drama. Just a look at works-in-progress, a chat with the artists, and a peek at how it all comes together. It’s casual, and you get to see what’s brewing.

What’s On Our Walls

We dig the handmade stuff and all its quirks. Our space is packed with analogue photography prints (cyanotypes, salt prints, gumoil, wet plate collodion), immersive installations (like our Orma Petti memory box), sculptures, watercolours, woodcuts, zines, even Super 8mm films.

Want Something Just for You?

We do commissions, from custom tones for your walls to helping you with framing. We’ve worked with institutions like MAP Bangalore and the British Council, and co-created shows with folks in Glasgow. If you’ve got a vision, we’re game to make it happen.

My Story

We started Kanike in 2019, calling it a 'gift' - just like the word means in Kannada. This studio’s got its own vibe now, full of handmade, analog messiness we love. Our logo’s got old Kannada script feels, mixing past and present. Some of the best days? Teaching cyanotype to kids in Garike village, watching them run wild with it. Orma Petti (memory box) sits here, holding bits of everyone. We’re all about stories, co-creating, and just letting things happen.

My Work

Creative Events & Workshops - We host hands-on workshops like cyanotype photography, leathercraft, book-making, woodcut printmaking, and more.

Open to All - No need to be a pro. Anyone curious about making things is welcome. Small groups, all materials provided.

Analog & Handmade Focus - We love ink, wood, darkrooms – old-school techniques that bring a special kind of magic.

Community & Collaboration - We team up with local and international artists, run residencies, and get involved in community projects.
