What Drives Me
I’m all about making people dance and bringing a community vibe to every party. My sets are about more than music - they’re about joy, release, and everyone feeling free to be themselves. Whether you’re desi, diaspora, or just looking for a good time, I want you to feel at home when I’m behind the decks.
Types of Parties I Spin
- Festivals & big stages: I headline major NYC events like SummerStage and Lincoln Center, and my Basement Bhangra is kinda legendary. It's a proper Bhangra dance party experience, mixing hip-hop, dancehall, and Bollywood. Yaar, agge aajo! (Hey friends, come front!)
- Club nights: Brooklyn is my playground. Bollywood Disco is my recurring party—think retro filmi, future classics, and always a wild crowd. Themed nights for Pride and holidays, plus everyone's dressed to impress.
- Private events: From museum galas to birthday bashes, I bring that high-energy NYC DJ vibe wherever you want it. Yes, even kids' parties if you want the little ones dancing!
My Musical Universe
South Asian fusion DJ sets are my thing, but the playlist jumps from Bhangra and Bollywood to global club sounds like disco, hip-hop, soca, and a sprinkle of electronic and Latin. I dig for deep cuts and keep it fresh for every crowd.
Beyond the Decks
Not just a DJ set—I hype up the room, chat on the mic, and sometimes bring live performers like dhol players, dancers, or drag artists. It turns into a full-blown show, uplifting other talented folks from our community and beyond.

My Story
Hey, I’m DJ Rekha. Been spinning beats and building wild, welcoming dance floors for a long time now. Basement Bhangra started as a way to blast Punjabi music in NYC clubs, and it just blew up! I’m not just about the music - I collect flyers, photos, all that, cause our party history matters. Donated my stash to NYU so anyone can see how our scene grew. For me, it’s all linked - the beats, the people, the stories.
