Ramanagara Romp: Our Annual Climbing Festival
Every December, we turn Ramanagara’s granite crags into a three-day celebration of climbing, community, and camp-life. Whether you are a seasoned lead climber or curious about your first outdoor ascent, the Romp is where you will find your tribe.

A fun challenge from the Romp. One climber dares another to perform a hands free rest while on lead, and she nails it. This is the kind of playful interaction and support you'll find at our festival.
A rapid fire Q&A with Geeta at the Achalu Crag during the Romp. It's a great way to get to know the amazing people who make up our climbing family.
Another quick and fun rapid fire session with a Romp participant. We love hearing about everyone's climbing preferences, from slab vs overhang to morning climbs vs night sessions.

Meet Utkarsh, one of the "People of Romp." An adventure sports filmmaker, his story shows the deep connection between passion and profession that many in our community share. Here he is, focused on a bouldering problem.
About Ramanagara Romp: Our Annual Festival
The Ramanagara Romp isn't a guided tour. It is a self-driven climbing festival where you manage your own climbing schedule across our pre-set routes, ranging from 5.7 to 5.11 grades. We provide the safety oversight, technical gear access, and the community vibe, but the climbing is up to you. Bring your own tent for the camping nights, show up with an open mind, and get ready for a weekend of sending routes and late-night stargazing.
What is the Ramanagara Romp?
The Romp is our biggest event of the year, held annually every December. It began in 2016 as a small gathering of 24 climbers and has grown into a bustling festival that brings the Bangalore climbing community and visitors from across the country together. We take over the granite landscapes of Ramanagara for 72 hours of climbing, camping, and community challenges.
The Vibe and Logistics
- Climbing Access: You get unlimited usage of pre-set routes across areas like Senapathy and Gowda's farm. Whether you prefer lead climbing, top-roping, or trying your hand at night bouldering, there is something for everyone.
- Camp Life: We foster a communal atmosphere. Bring your own tent for the designated camping area. We provide communal breakfasts and dinners featuring local energy-dense food, giving everyone a chance to swap beta and stories under the stars.
- Safety: Safety is our priority. Experienced volunteers are on-site to manage route setting, anchor building, and safety checks. We drill basics like top-rope belaying to ensure every participant, from kids to first-timers, feels secure on the rock.
Why Join?
This isn't just about the grades. It is about the 'Aale aale!' (Go for it!) spirit that echoes off the rocks. You will meet folks who share your passion for the outdoors, participate in fun challenges like our Slab Master competition, and contribute to the local climbing scene. Proceeds from our festival passes help fund route development, so you are directly supporting the future of climbing in Karnataka.
Climbing Initiatives
We are the Bangalore Climbing Initiatives, a collective of folks who are simply hooked on the rocks here. We don't just set routes; we build a family where everyone—from kids to complete newbies—feels encouraged to find their own happy place on the wall.
