Nivaala
My Story
Not gonna lie, Nivaala is basically my way of holding onto my mum, Neena. Lost her before I could ask for her recipes. Now all I’ve got is her voice, scribbles in old diaries, and honestly, that’s sometimes enough. Cooking with my nephew, I realised food is how we remember, how we stay connected. My great-grandma’s Poorni kachori recipe made it across borders. That’s what I’m trying to save – memories, not just for me, but for all of us.
My Work
Recipe Preservation Services - We help you save your family’s food memories, whether it’s old recipes or new ones, so they don’t get lost.
Voice App for Recipes - Record recipes in your maa’s (mom’s) voice, andaaza and all. The app transcribes and makes a keepsake PDF.
Heirloom Recipe Journals - Love pen and paper? Our journals let you write recipes, notes, even for kids. Start your own food story.
Community of Food Memories - Through Food Atlas and Memories on a Plate, we collect and share family recipes from across India.
Why We Do It - Family recipes are inheritance. We want preserving them to be as normal as making chai.
