This is the first thing a potential client sees. It’s a curated look at the breadth of my work, from academic panels and archival projects to high-profile community activism. Each visual tells a piece of the story of how I use music and culture to build community and spark conversation.
Talks, Panels & Cultural Institutions
I bring the energy of the club to academic and cultural spaces for lectures, panel discussions, and film talkbacks. We can dig into topics like the history of South Asian music in NYC, the desi diaspora experience, or how art and activism intersect, collaborating with institutions like the Brooklyn Museum, Museum of the Moving Image, and Museum of the City of New York.
Archiving Our History: The Basement Bhangra Collection
I believe our flyers, photos, and guest lists are historical artifacts. I've partnered with NYU's Fales Library to donate my personal archives, creating the DJ Rekha Collection on Basement Bhangra to ensure our stories of South Asian nightlife and community are preserved and accessible for scholars and the public.
Community Building & Activism
For me, the dance floor has always been a space for change and building chosen family. I partner with grassroots organizations and community leaders to support causes we believe in, from get-out-the-vote campaigns to fundraisers and block parties that celebrate our collective power.
Workshops & Interactive Sessions
Let's get hands-on. I lead sessions for all ages that get people moving and listening, from Bhangra dance parties at Lincoln Center to deep listening sessions of filmi classics. These workshops are designed to be fun, educational, and a space to connect through music and movement.
In Conversation: Podcasts & Media Features
I often join conversations on podcasts and other platforms to share my perspective on music, culture, and community. These interviews are a chance to go deeper into the stories behind the music and connect with audiences beyond the dance floor.
