The Art of Plating: Main Courses & Entrees
Main courses are the anchors of your menu. I capture the textures, colors, and unique architecture of your dishes, turning them into visual stories that make your customers hungry.

About this collection
I don’t just capture a plate of food; I capture the intent behind it. Before the camera comes out, we sit down to discuss the story of your dish. Whether it’s a complex pasta or a rustic Indian thali, I handle the styling on set—polishing garnishes, refreshing sauces, and adjusting lighting—so the final image reflects exactly what your chef intended.
Great food photography is about more than making things look appetizing. It is about communicating the vibe of your establishment to the person on the other side of the screen. When I shoot main courses, I prioritize the 'shot mix' that your menu needs to convert viewers into diners.
My approach varies based on your venue's atmosphere. For casual cafes, I use bright, even lighting that emphasizes freshness and color. For fine-dining restaurants, I lean into moody, dramatic lighting setups that create depth and draw attention to the texture of the plating.
I specialize in two distinct perspectives:
- The Flat Lay: Perfect for menu banners and showing variety. This angle helps your customers see the scale of a thali or the range of ingredients in a continental spread without visual clutter.
- The Hero Shot: These are the eye-level or slightly angled shots that highlight the architecture of the dish. I use these to showcase height, steam, or delicate garnishes that define a chef's signature style.
My workflow involves a tethered setup for full-day shoots, meaning you can see exactly what I see on a laptop screen as we shoot. This allows us to adjust angles, tweak plating, and approve the composition in real-time. Whether you need a crisp, clean image for a delivery app or a rich, cinematic shot for your social media and website, I tailor my lighting and styling to match your brand's aesthetic. We focus on real textures—the sheen on a sauce, the char on a vegetable, and the layering of flavors.
