This is the first collection of visuals a potential client will see. I've selected these images and videos to give a powerful and immediate sense of my work, showcasing the energy, intimacy, and authenticity I bring to cultural documentary photography.
Yakshagana & Bhoota Kola: The Divine Performance
I focus on capturing the raw energy and spiritual intensity of these traditional Karavali performances. My goal is to document the ritual as it unfolds, using the natural, dramatic lighting from the torches to preserve the authentic atmosphere.
The Chowki: Behind the Scenes
For me, the story begins in the 'chowki' or green room, long before the performance starts. I quietly document the artists' transformation, capturing the intricate process of 'bannagarike' (makeup) and the candid moments of preparation under the simple light of a few bulbs.
Kambala: The Thrill of the Race
I document the thunderous energy of the traditional buffalo race, a key part of our Karavali heritage. My focus is on freezing the peak action, from the jockey's intense concentration to the spray of mud as the buffaloes charge through the water-filled tracks.
Hattihabba: The Heart of the Village Festival
These photos capture the chaotic energy and community spirit of Hattihabba, a traditional cattle festival. I immerse myself in the crowd to get unscripted shots that show the raw interaction between the people and the animals, documenting the event as it truly is.
Community and Celebration
Beyond the main rituals, I love documenting the moments of celebration that bring our communities together. This includes everything from local temple car festivals like Kodihabba to national celebrations, capturing the collective joy and spirit of the people.
Documentary Stories: Beyond Karavali
While my heart is in Karavali, my camera travels with me, always ready to capture authentic, unscripted moments of life wherever I go. This is a collection of candid scenes from my travels, shot with the same documentary approach.
