About

Kobudo is more than just swinging sticks around - it’s a huge part of what makes Okinawan Karate so deep and challenging. For us, it’s about learning where Karate comes from, not just punching and kicking but understanding the weapons side too. I’m honestly passionate about keeping things real and not watering down the old-school methods.

How We Train

We teach the exact Kobudo syllabus that’s taught in Okinawa, Japan. No shortcuts, no modern mashups. Every year, we head to Okinawa and train with the grandmasters. Whatever they teach us there, alli hege teach madtare, same illi navu teach madtivi (the way they teach there, that's how we teach here). Authenticity is non-negotiable.

Weapons You'll Get Your Hands On

  • Bo (Staff): Six feet of wood, feels awkward at first but you’ll get used to it. Builds serious coordination and power.
  • Sai (Truncheon): Weird-looking, but great for blocking and quick moves. Your wrists will thank me later.
  • Tonfa (Handle): Looks simple, but mastering it is a different beast. Perfect for both defence and attack.

We provide all gear at the dojo, so you can just show up and focus.

Who Can Join?

Literally anyone - kids, adults, total newbies, or black belts. Doesn’t matter if you’ve never touched a weapon before. Kobudo for beginners is just as important as it is for advanced folks.

Why It Matters

Kobudo isn’t a side hobby here. It’s a required part of our Karate-do weapons curriculum. As you go up the belt levels, you’ll need to show you can handle these traditional Okinawan weapons properly. That’s how you become a proper martial artist, not just another belt collector.

My Story

Started OSK Federation way back in 1992, just 14 kids in Bannerghatta. Vishraantiyannu badigittu (kept rest aside), I put my whole life into teaching. My Karate roots are from Okinawa, Japan, not Kerala, though I’m from Wayanad. Every year, we go there, train, and bring the authentic Shorin-ryu Shorinkan syllabus back. My teachers, Nakazato Hanshi, showed me the real way. Now, seeing our students become instructors - that’s the real proud moment. OSK is one big family, built on discipline.

My Work

Karate, Kobudo & Self Defense Classes - We teach traditional Okinawan Karate, Kobudo weapons, and self-defense workshops for youth and adults.

Authentic Shorin ryu Shorinkan Syllabus - No shortcuts. Whatever is taught in Okinawa, same syllabus here. We go every year to train and keep it real.

Karate for Life - It’s not just a sport. Pratiyobbaru kalibekagiro Karate (everyone should learn Karate). Discipline, health, and confidence for life.

Largest Karate School in India - From 14 students to 50,000+ yearly. Classes in Bangalore, Mysore, Kolar, Sri Lanka. Honbu Dojo is in Bangalore.

Karate Summer Camps - We run popular summer camps and workshops for schools, corporate groups, and apartments.
