This is the first glimpse into my world of art. It’s a handpicked collection that showcases the heart of what I do: capturing people, places, and moments in both oil and watercolor. Each piece tells a story, and I hope it inspires you to think about the story you’d like to tell.
Live Oil Portraits: Capturing Essence in a Single Session
There's a special energy in painting someone from life. Most of these portraits are created "alla prima," completed in a single sitting of 4-5 hours, which allows me to capture the immediate presence and personality of the model. We'll start with a sketch and build up the layers of oil on linen or canvas, with plenty of chai breaks included.
Watercolor Journeys: Places and Memories
I use watercolors, mostly from Daniel Smith, to capture the feeling of a place, whether it's a bustling city street or a quiet landscape. Many of these are created on-site during my travels or with my urban sketchers group, while others are painted in my studio from photos you provide. This collection includes scenes from India's vibrant cities and serene countryside, as well as memories from my travels in Italy.
Studies in Form: Grisaille, Monochrome, and Figures
Exploring form without the complexity of color is a powerful exercise. This collection includes Grisaille (monochrome) oil portraits, charcoal and graphite drawings, and figure studies from live sessions. These pieces focus on value, light, and shadow to capture the three-dimensional form on a two-dimensional surface.
Oil Paintings: From Still Life to Cityscapes
Beyond portraits, I love using oils to explore different subjects. This includes still life studies of everyday objects, like a corner of my kitchen or flowers from the garden, which help me practice composition and color. I also paint cityscapes and architectural details from my travels, using rich Gamblin oil colors on linen to bring these memories to life.
Behind the Easel: My Process, Workshops, and Exhibitions
Art is a journey of constant learning and sharing. Here’s a look into my world: my studio where ideas come to life, the high-quality materials I trust, and the joy of sketching with fellow artists. This also includes moments from workshops I've attended and conducted, and the pride of seeing my work displayed in exhibitions.
