Reading Grounds

We plan communities and layouts by starting with the land, talking to users, and blending buildings with green spaces using native plants and local ideas.

About

I look at every site with fresh eyes. Before any building takes shape, I try to 'read' its story - the land, the people, the old trees, what memories might already exist here. Nature gets to go first. I just try to listen.

How I Plan: City or Layout, Big or Small

  • Always start with research and real talks with people who’ll use the space. Kids, elders, everyone matters.
  • Ecology sits at the core. I use native plants, avoid waste, and try to make things work for the long run.
  • I blur the lines between buildings and landscape - imagine green pockets tucked into every corner, not just around the edge.
  • I like a bit of Indian jugaad (improvisation) and tradition - the maidan, for example, is a big open space that locals shape with their own use. These ideas guide me.

What Kinds of Places I Design

  • Large Communities & Townships: I sculpt the ground, not just lay out buildings. Pools, play areas, podium gardens - all woven into daily life.
  • Residential Layouts: I focus on walkable streets, unique pavers, and central parks with amphitheatres and paths. Plant choices matter - I use a lot of native species for that local vibe.
  • Urbanism Projects: My 'Story of a Thousand Parks' is about ditching cookie-cutter parks for something more open and fun, especially in Namma Bengaluru (Our Bengaluru).
  • Campuses: Here, I keep it more structured, layering shade trees, seating, and little spots to pause.

I believe a landscape should be felt, not just seen. My spaces are meant for slow walks, some adda (chit-chat), and always a bit of surprise.

My Story

We’re Reading Grounds, based in Namma Bengaluru. Our thing? We 'read' the land, its stories, and try to make places where people can slow down, reflect, and gather. Curiosity keeps us moving—like that time we wondered why BBMP parks felt ignored, dug deeper, and ended up reshaping one (award came as a bonus, ha!). We’re big on community, so our 'Reading Series' is all about bringing folks together. Little efforts, big changes. That’s us.

My Work

Landscape & Ecological Design - We do nature-led landscape design, ecological planning, and masterplanning for parks, homes, and retail spaces.

Spaces for People & Community - We shape flexible public spaces where users set the vibe—think classic Indian 'Maidan' style.

Hands on, Site Specific Approach - We get into the mud, use local leaves for stepping stones, and let the site guide each project.

Sensory Garden Experience - We design gardens you can see, smell, and feel—crunchy earth, fragrant air, colours everywhere.
