About

I started Pencil and Chai so people could find a peaceful spot to really focus on art - pencil in one hand, chai in the other. Here, it’s not about rushing or showing off. You get time, space and guidance to actually learn, not just copy. We’re not big on shortcuts, but we’re big on helping you become your own kind of artist.

Courses at a Glance

  • Watercolor, acrylics, and pastels - all under one roof.
  • Foundation and certification courses for each medium. Newbies or folks with some experience, there’s a route for you.
  • Watercolor painting classes for adults: from basics like washes and color mixing, to advanced compositions.
  • Acrylic painting basics course: learn to blend, layer, and build your personal style.
  • Pastel art workshops: get a feel for the texture and depth of soft pastels, from simple sketches to detailed pieces.

How We Teach

  • Not just theory. It’s all live demos and hands-on practice.
  • Small groups, so you get real feedback, not lost in the crowd.
  • Beginner-friendly painting lessons - no prior experience needed.
  • For the unsure, there’s a short Art Exploration Workshop to try things out before you jump in.

Who Fits In Here

If you’re curious about painting, want to slow down, or just need a break from daily hustle, you’ll fit right in. Age, skill level, background - doesn’t matter. You bring the curiosity, I’ll bring the chai.

My Story

Folks ask, 'Why Pencil & Chai?' and we grin. Started in 2011, before outdoor art classes were cool in Bangalore. Our first lessons? Not fancy studios - just open sky, sketchbooks, chai, and artists who knew their stuff. Chai in one hand, pencil in the other. That vibe stuck. Now, we’ve got a studio, a Gurukul, but the heart’s the same. We’re here to keep Indian folk arts like Chittaara and Kalamkari alive. Step in, and you join our story.
