About

For me, family recipes are like heirlooms. I lost my maa’s recipes because I never wrote them down, and it still pinches. That’s why I started Nivaala – to make sure your ghar ka khana (home food) stories don’t just disappear.

What I Make

It’s never just a cookbook. I work with you to turn those andaaze se (by estimation) recipes and kitchen stories into something lasting. Sometimes it’s a book, sometimes a digital food archive, sometimes even a way to hear your loved one’s voice again. I chase after those little details – the kaimanam (that special touch), the story behind the dish, the voice notes, all of it.

How I Capture Your Food Memories

  • Community cookbook project: I bring people together to create anthologies like "Memories on a Plate", packed with stories, poems, art, and recipes from kitchens all over the world. There are QR codes so you can actually listen to people share stories in their own words.
  • Digital Food Atlas: This is a living digital food archive for India’s family recipes, from all corners and backgrounds. Anybody can add their story and keep the tradition going.

What Matters Most

If you’ve ever worried about your family’s food memories fading away, you’re not alone. I’m here to help you document them, with all their quirks and flavors, so the next generation never has to say, “I wish I’d written that down.”

My Story

Not gonna lie, Nivaala is basically my way of holding onto my mum, Neena. Lost her before I could ask for her recipes. Now all I’ve got is her voice, scribbles in old diaries, and honestly, that’s sometimes enough. Cooking with my nephew, I realised food is how we remember, how we stay connected. My great-grandma’s Poorni kachori recipe made it across borders. That’s what I’m trying to save – memories, not just for me, but for all of us.

My Work

Recipe Preservation Services - We help you save your family’s food memories, whether it’s old recipes or new ones, so they don’t get lost.

Voice App for Recipes - Record recipes in your maa’s (mom’s) voice, andaaza and all. The app transcribes and makes a keepsake PDF.

Heirloom Recipe Journals - Love pen and paper? Our journals let you write recipes, notes, even for kids. Start your own food story.

Community of Food Memories - Through Food Atlas and Memories on a Plate, we collect and share family recipes from across India.

Why We Do It - Family recipes are inheritance. We want preserving them to be as normal as making chai.
