About

Music has always been the heart of my life, but sharing Carnatic music with others gives me a special kind of happiness. Nothing beats watching someone discover something new in a raga, or seeing a group play together for the first time. I love bringing Carnatic music into new spaces, from colleges to big international festivals.

What I Offer

  • My lecture-demonstrations (Lec-Dems) are not typical talks. I mix stories, easy explanations, and live music on my veena. It’s less like a class, more like a musical adda (hangout). People say even complete beginners get hooked.
  • For those who want to get their hands dirty, I do interactive veena ensemble workshops. No need to be a pro - just bring your curiosity. Prepping a fifty-member group is chaos and fun, and everyone learns something unexpected.
  • I also speak at cultural music panel discussions and memorial events, sharing my journey, memories of great artists, and thoughts on where music is headed.

Who Usually Joins

  • College students, young folks starting out, SPIC MACAY groups.
  • International listeners curious about Indian sounds.
  • Hardcore rasikas (connoisseurs) and musicians.
  • Even corporate teams looking for something different.

Where Does It Happen

Mostly at my Tarangini Arts Foundation in Bangalore, but honestly, I go where the music takes me. Sometimes it’s a concert hall, sometimes a classroom, sometimes a festival stage.
Music is for everyone, wherever you are.

My Story

Hey, I'm Suma. Music and adventure, that’s me! Folks see me with the veena, but I love a challenge. Like, I did the Sandakpoo trek even when everyone said, 'Ayyo, why risk it?' (Oh no, why risk it?) I trained hard, went anyway. Clouds, pain, stunning villages – totally worth it. But it's not just big treks. Even a morning walk at Bannerghatta, sunrise, old friends, and remembering legends like Vimala Rangachar auntie, all make life rich.

My Work

Veena performances and jugalbandhi - I play solo and jugalbandhi concerts, each with its own vibe and surprises.

Carnatic music teaching - I teach veena to all levels, from basics to advanced, at Tarangini Arts Foundation.

Workshops and talks - I run Carnatic veena workshops and speak about our music’s depth and beauty.

Creator of Tarangini Veena - I developed the Tarangini Veena, always exploring new ways in veena music.

Guiding students - Proud to see my students start their own music schools and stores, making their own journeys.
