That is why every single one of our sessions is conducted with a live tabla player. You are not just dancing to a recorded track; you are learning to respond to the musician, which is exactly how you master Laya and Taal in the Lucknow Gharana style. ### Our Approach to Kathak We teach the Lucknow Gharana, focusing on the lineage of Pt. Birju Maharaj. My goal is to ensure you get the basics right from your very first class. We dedicate significant time to Tatkar (footwork) and Chakkars (spins), making sure your form is disciplined and technically sound. ### Why Live Music Matters Dancing to a recording is one thing, but listening to a tabla player react to your movements is entirely different. By training with live accompaniment, you learn to internalize the beat, allowing you to dance with a level of confidence and spontaneity that recorded tracks simply cannot teach. ### Beyond the Dance - **Certification:** We prepare students for government-recognized Gandharva or Prayag Sangeet Samiti diplomas, ensuring your hard work is validated. - **Studio Safety:** Our studios feature professional wooden flooring specifically designed to cushion your joints and prevent knee injuries during heavy footwork. - **Batches:** We keep groups small and segregated by skill level, from absolute beginners to advanced learners, so you receive the personal correction you need to grow. Whether you are a child just starting your journey or an adult looking to reconnect with the arts, we are here to guide you with patience and discipline. ## About Thirkan I am a shishya first, and an instructor second. At Thirkan, my goal is to pass on what my Gurus taught me, ensuring you get the foundation right from your first step to the complex chakkars. You are stepping into a space that respects this art form as much as you do.
