It is about the small, daily comforts—like a custom-knit neck warmer for chilly mornings or adjusting floor surfaces to prevent slips—that truly change their quality of life. I help you spot these specific pain points and implement immediate, practical changes to keep your senior dog moving with dignity. Aging, whether in humans or our four-legged whānau, requires a shift in perspective. My approach to senior and special needs care at my Tharabanahalli homestead is about managing the 'creaky' years with as much grace as possible. I look at the whole dog, not just the diagnosis. ### Why Senior Care Needs a Different Touch - **Mobility First:** We look at gait, arthritis signs, and pain points. Sometimes it is as simple as adding anti-slip flooring or a ramp so your dog doesn't have to struggle to get up. - **Anti-Inflammatory Nutrition:** For aging joints and organ health, diet is the first line of defense. I focus on calorie management and texture customization, using functional foods like golden paste and Omega-3s to reduce systemic inflammation. - **Gentle Enrichment:** Just because a dog is older doesn't mean they don't need mental stimulation. I introduce 'Sniffaris'—structured, slow-paced walks that focus on sniffing rather than distance—which keep their minds sharp without stressing their joints. ### My Philosophy: The 'Kahu' Approach Being a Kahu means I am their guardian. I do not believe in forcing senior dogs into rigid routines that cause anxiety. If your dog is dealing with cognitive decline or past trauma responses, I provide decompression techniques to create a calm, predictable environment. We focus on 'passive activities' like appropriate long-lasting chews that allow them to engage without physical strain. Whether your senior pup needs a complete dietary overhaul or just a few environmental tweaks to make home life easier, we start with a deep-dive assessment of their history and current needs. Let’s work together to make their golden years their best ones. ## About The Urban Dawg I'm Devisri, a 'Kahu'—a guardian—to my pack and a mumma to many. I don't just see a senior dog; I see a history, a soul, and a personality that needs just a little extra patience and specific, gentle care to shine.
