## About Inspiration Gallery

Notice the texture on these pieces. I love using sgraffito, a technique where we carve through a layer of slip to reveal the clay underneath. It is a slow, meditative process that turns a simple wheel-thrown bowl into something tactile. Most of these forms started on the wheel before getting that hand-carved detail.

Every piece you see here reflects the time, patience, and occasional mess that comes with working in our HSR Layout studio. Whether it is a delicate bud vase with a blue leaved sgraffito design or a sturdy stoneware bowl finished in a rich green glaze, my focus remains on the process. 

Pottery is rarely about getting it perfect on the first try. It is about understanding the clay, learning to center it on the wheel, and knowing when to trim and when to leave it alone. We use professional Nidec-Shimpo wheels and a Skutt electric kiln to ensure every piece that leaves our studio is functional and food-safe. 

If you see a form or a glaze effect that speaks to you, it is likely something we explore in our workshops. We encourage students to move beyond standard mugs. You can experiment with pinching, coiling, slab-building, or even complex sculpting. Every piece in this gallery serves as a starting point for what you might create during your own time at the studio, whether you are here for a single 'Play with Clay' session or a 10-week wheel-throwing course.
