Raku is where fire meets clay, and we let the flames decide the outcome. It is a slow, unpredictable process where the kiln provides the finish, not the brush.

## About The Raku Experience: Fire & Chance

In Raku firing, you have to accept that you are not in full control. I pull the pieces out of the kiln while they are still glowing red, and the final look comes from how quickly they cool or how much smoke they soak in. If you are looking for mass-produced uniformity, this is not it, but if you want something that carries the raw energy of the fire, this is for you.

Raku is an ancient Japanese technique that I have made my own in my Delhi studio. It feels less like manufacturing and more like a collaboration with the elements. When you watch me work, you will see me pulling red-hot clay from the kiln at over 700 degrees. That is the moment of truth. We might plunge it into water, or expose it to combustible materials to create those deep, smoky crackles and metallic sheens that define a Raku piece.

Then there is the Horsehair Raku technique. I throw strands of horsehair onto the hot surface, watching as they sizzle and leave behind spontaneous, spider-web patterns. No two lines are ever the same. Because of the thermal shock involved, this is delicate work, and that is why most of these pieces are meant for display rather than daily dining. Every crack and carbon mark tells a story of the heat it survived. If you are interested in trying this, I run workshops where we handle these flames together, usually over a few days so you can build, glaze, and fire your own vision.

## About The Potter's Life

I am Suvajit. I left the art colleges of Kolkata behind to chase the feel of clay in my hands here in Delhi. My studio in Jona Pur is a simple place, filled with dust, fire, and the occasional mess that turns into something beautiful.
