## About Behind the Scenes: The Potter's Life

You might see a perfect finished piece, but the real story is in the kiln. Glazing is my chemistry experiment. Those bubbling, metallic textures you see in my glaze tests aren't always planned; sometimes I am just testing a new oxide mixture to see how the fire reacts. It is messy, unpredictable, and entirely necessary to get that one perfect finish.

My studio in Jona Pur is a quiet space where I spend my days. Clay has a way of grounding you. When I sit at the wheel, it is just me and the rotation, pulling up the walls of a cylinder or shaping a moon jar. It is slow work. I do not believe in rushing the process because the clay usually tells you when it is ready to be shaped.

### The Chemistry of Fire
One of the most exciting parts of what I do is the Raku firing. Unlike standard kiln firing, Raku involves pulling pieces out while they are still red-hot. The fire, the smoke, and the rapid cooling create those unique crackled glazes and metallic sheens that define much of my work. Sometimes I use the horsehair technique, letting the hair sizzle onto the hot surface to create wild, black, linear patterns. It is a moment of pure chance, and I love the surprise of it.

### More Than Just Clay
I spend a lot of time on details that you might not notice at first glance. Whether it is carving intricate Chinese cloud patterns into a leather-hard porcelain cup or hand-shaping dozens of tiny clay blossoms for a sculpture, my goal is to give each piece a character of its own. I make mistakes. That is part of the growth. If I did not push the limits with experiments like my 'Erotic Cups' or thick, crawling glazes, I would never discover new forms.

If you ever want to see the studio, feel free to drop by. Whether you are curious about the techniques I use or want to discuss a custom project, I am always happy to share the joy of the wheel.
