Here are some practical tips we share with all our students to help you choose the right path and stay consistent. ## Photos and videos - ![Wondering how to choose an instrument or vocal style? We tell all our students, whether you are picking up a guitar for the first time or starting Hindustani vocals, to commit to at least three months. Consistency beats intensity every time. You do not need to practice for hours, but you do need to practice every day. Even 15 minutes of focused, dedicated time makes a difference in your progress and helps you build a habit that lasts. ### Choosing Your Path Many students come to us unsure if they should learn an instrument or focus on vocals. The best way to decide is to look within. What music makes you happy? Research the bands or artists you admire and see what instruments they use. We encourage you to observe a class at our Chembur or Matunga centers to see how the teaching process feels in reality. If you are still unsure, speak to our counselors; we are here to help you align your interest with your goals. ### The Art of Practice We often see students struggle because they treat music like a chore. At the Gurukul, we teach that practice should be joyful but disciplined. Divide your time between lessons, music theory, and learning songs you love. If you do not practice daily, you likely will not see the progress you want. It is that simple. ### Why Community Matters Learning music in isolation can get discouraging. That is why we place so much emphasis on our community. Whether you are taking private 1-on-1 sessions, joining our small group Hindustani batches, or attending an online class, you are part of a larger system. We provide opportunities for students to perform at bi-monthly open mics and annual concerts. When you perform, your confidence grows, and you learn to handle the stage, which is as important as the technique itself. ### Parent Involvement If you are a parent looking for classes for your child, please know that we encourage you to sit in on sessions. We want you to be part of the journey. When parents are involved, it reinforces the discipline and joy of learning music, making it a shared experience for the whole family. ## About The Music Gurukul I am Hitesh, and I started this Gurukul because I wanted a space that felt like home.
